Think Oil, Not Yield, From Your Field

United Oilseeds’ MD, Chris Baldwin has urged growers to think oil, not yield when selecting rapes for planting next season.
Assuming no yield difference - by selecting the high oil yield variety Komando with its 45.4% oil content over Castille at 42.8% - growers can secure significant financial rewards.
These equate to £384 more per lorry load delivered in terms of oil bonuses; 106 more litres/cooking oil/ha - which across each 50ha field represents cooking oil worth £8,745 on the supermarket shelf.
“That’s enough to replenish oil in a thriving fish and chip shop’s fryer to keep it going for almost a month,” he says
