What is the right variety for biogas production?
Variety choice for biogas production should be aimed at achieving the highest potential methane output and should take account of the following:
- Maturity
- Cost per tonne of fresh matter
- Harvest window

The FAO number gives an easy read guide to maturity – the lower the number the earlier. E.g. 150= ultra early, 210-230 = mainstream.
