Cash is an open pollinating variety bred by Momont
If you are looking to add more to your bottom-line then Cash is for you. With a combination of high oils and high yields, conventionally-bred Cash provides an exceptional gross output.
However, the key attribute if Cash is its resistance to stem canker. With a rating of 8, coupled with its early harvest, Cash offers a real opportunity for growers in the south of the UK to control this important disease.
So, if you are looking for a high output, low risk investment across mainstream Britain where phoma is the main disease threat, Cash should be a key component of your variety investment portfolio.
Compared to control variety Castille, Cash is a banker variety. As a high yielding open-pollinator Cash’s gross output figure provides almost a 4% yield advantage over Castille worth £80/ha with rape at £375/t (as of December 2010).
It does so on the basis of not just a very high seed yield but also a very high oil content of 45.7%.
Exceptional Stem Canker Resistance
Cash has exceptional resistance to the UK’s main rape disease – stem canker. Indeed, no other conventional variety can beat its 8-rating for the disease.
This gives it a real advantage in mainstream oilseed rape growing areas where the disease is expensive to control and can necessitate a three-spray fungicide programme.
As a result, you can expect Cash to buy you time and reduce spray pressures – particularly across large rape acreages and in difficult autumns - at a time when there are many other priority jobs to be considered across the farm. The sudden high disease pressure in autumn 2010 highlighted the difficulty of applying timely sprays and therefore reinforced the true value of Phoma resistance.
Combine this with exceptional spring vigour – one that matches that achieved by many hybrids – and you can be confident that Cash will deliver a strong recovery from winter conditions and early phoma pressures.
Indeed, in our late season (16th September) sown trials last year, Cash has been a top-performer. So you may consider it as a variety to feature later in the drilling pack – a conventional type that will deliver in more difficult conditions.
Agronomically Strong
In addition, with a double-8 rating for stem strength and lodging, Cash stands well at a height that is similar to Excalibur, although a should be considered in highly fertile situations. And, being early to flower – almost as early as Castille - and early to mature, Cash can deliver a strong start to your harvest.

With sound agronomic characteristics and exceptional phoma resistance, Cash is an easy crop to grow and one that oilseed rape growers across all mainstream arable areas should lock-in to, to maximise their financial returns.
