The UK’s Market Leading HEAR
Marcant is bred by LS Plant Breeding
Marcant was the first hybrid HEAR to come to the market and specialist oil growers have been quick to grasp its potential on farm. As a result, the variety has taken the lion’s share of the HEAR market over the last two seasons.
Performing well, year on year and with an exceptionally high erucic acid level and very high yield, Marcant is well accepted by the end-users.
Exceptional Yield and Quality
In three years of KWS trials up to 2009 Marcant out-yielded other conventional HEAR’s by at least 8%. This performance was mirrored last harvest in both Frontier and KWS trials with the variety significantly ahead of Maplus and relative newcomer Helico.
At the same time as filling the barn, Marcant’s erucic acid content is exceptional and significantly ahead of established industry standard varieties.
Finally, in terms of erucic acid yield Marcant stands well ahead of standard varieties, helping to maximise performance in the manufacturing process.
Easy to Grow
Marcant is a medium height variety with excellent straw strength and lodging resistance as well as excellent autumn and spring vigour.

In comparison to previous conventional HEAR varieties, Marcant offers improved resistance to LLS and stem canker.
And, with both medium flowering and maturity ratings, early frost risks are minimised and Marcant provides a good pod-fill period without compromising harvest date.
