Escadre

Those looking for a high yielding conventional six-row to replace Sequel need look no further than Escadre. 

Newly recommended for this season, Escadre is the highest yielding six-row on the UK Recommended List – even beating one of the hybrids – and at 104% of controls it is 4% ahead of Sequel.

Escadre also produces the highest conventional six-row yields in the main six-row growing regions of Scotland and the West of England – providing good yields and an exceptionally bold sample.

However, Escadre’s coup de grâce is the fact that this high yield is backed by the highest specific weight of any Recommended six-row – hybrid or conventional.

Indeed, out of the feed varieties, only the two-rows KWS Cassia and Saffron, can beat it for specific weight and no six-row hybrid comes within one point of Escadre.

In addition, in terms of screenings Escadre is significantly better than Sequel.

Easy to Grow

Agronomically, Escadre is a step up from current on-farm six-row favourite Sequel and is simple to grow.

It features very strong for resistance to both Rhynchosporium and net blotch (both rated 8), and should require a similar input regime to currently grown conventional six-rows.

Escadre’s straw is of medium length, but shorter in height than any other Recommended six-row hybrid or conventional variety.  Resistance to lodging mirrors that of Sequel.  It will benefit from a robust PGR programme.

Escadre is two days earlier to ripen than Pearl and on a par with Sequel. 

It is also BaYMV resistant and so should find favour across most soils and regions, UK wide.

So, quite simply, for those looking for a high yielding six-row with big bold berry, Escadre is the high flier that commands your attention.
