For farmers requiring a short season maize variety with leading forage quality, Kontender is the front runner.

With leading starch yields of 6.5 t/ha – Kontender offers higher returns than either Ixxes or Destiny. Giving early maturity, bulk yields and strong vigour Kontender should be No.1 for high starch forage maize across dairy and beef diets.

  • Forecast NIAB Group 9 (favourable sites) Group 8/9 (less favourable sites)

Characteristics:

  • Excellent yield for its maturity – outperforms existing varieties such as Sapphire, Destiny and Hawk
  • One of few varieties to lay down starch ahead of dry matter – equal to current class 10/11 varieties
  • Short growing season – ideal for later drilling
  • Fast early vigour (7.7)
