150 years of KWS

In 1856 the farmer Matthias Christian Rabbethge acquired the majority interest in the sugar factory in Kleinwanzleben, forming a general partnership in which he was joined by his future son-in-law Julius Giesecke the same year. This marked the start of the successful history of KWS, which continues today, and which looks set to last long into the future. KWS has remained an independent, family-run business since 1856, and this independence has always been a key part of our success.

Throughout this long journey KWS has always seen itself as a reliable partner of the farming community. We measure our products against the criteria of sustainability - with the goal of underpinning competive agriculture activity in a healthy environment. Seed is the crucial production tool of our customers and hence our motto is: to develop innovative varieties to create economically interesting prospects – yesterday, today and tomorrow.
